There are a
number of reasons why we're different to many communication
training, coaching and consultancy companies. However, 4 stand out.
First, we
don't believe in rules; rather, we follow principles.
Second, we think the same principles of communication apply
to all aspects of communication.
Third, our training is
based on communication experience in one of the toughest
industries.
Fourth, society and the way we communicate
has changed dramatically in the last ten years. We
continuously embrace and incorporate the cutting edge.
We've
thrown out the rule book
When you sign
up for a presentation skills course, you're often taught a
set of rules for effective presentation. Not in a
Talkshow course.
We can't see
how fixed, rigid rules can help you in a world that's
different every day. The world is changing
so fast that new "communication rules" become obsolete in a
matter of months.
We also don't
believe it's up to us to tell you the rules. But
that's what a lot communication training seems to be about.
Do this, do that. Now.
Believe
it or not, you can make your own communication rules.
In our communication training we help you write your own rules that work for your
personality and communication
context. Rules that are flexible to change without undermining
communication success.
Look at the
rules of writing for the Internet. The Internet and
how people use it, along with what they use it for, is
constantly changing. Rules just don't help all the
time.
There are some
forms of communication that are so new that we don't yet
truly know what is an effective use of that medium.
Instead of
rules, we look to principles. Ageless principles that
will ensure communication success regardless of the latest
development in technology, cultural evolution or societal
values.
We look at
all communication holistically
We use the 5
Principles of Functional Communication to help people become
phenomenal communicators. And we believe that these
principles apply to all forms of communication.
We don't like
the idea of some being a "good writer" but poor "public
speaker." Or a great leader but a lousy writer. We
look at communication from a holistic perspective with the
aim of making you an all around better communicator.
Yes, we do
offer workshops principally on writing, and other forms of
communication such as communication leadership or public
presentations. But we like to roll them into one.
We learned
communication in one of the toughest industries
The experience
of many members of the Talkshow faculty come from
broadcasting. Broadcasting is one of the most
demanding fields for communicators. If you aren't any
good, you don't last.
Media and
broadcasting have had a powerful effect on our day-to-day
lives. That effect shapes our perception of the world,
persuades us to buy products we may never have heard of
otherwise, and
influences our behavior and societal values.
What are the
secrets that make the media so powerful? We've
analyzed the secrets behind effective media communication.
And we share those with you so you too can experience
powerful communication.
The 5
Principles of Functional Communication are based on
communication secrets from the world of media that you can
apply tomorrow in the real world. And most of our
trainers, coaches and consultants have performed demanding
roles in some of the world's most respected media
organizations.
We don't teach
from a textbook, like some trainers. We teach from
real experience. And we reinforce that with the latest
research and theory to ensure you don't just do a
communication workshop but you walk out having improved your
communication performance.
Like
everything, communication has changed
The way we
communicate has changed radically. This is not an
overstatement, but a fact. Email has changed the
lengths of our sentences, the times we communicate and the
style of information exchange.
Mobile phones
have changed the nature of how we are contacted and the impact
on personal space. Text messages have further changed
the way we construct sentences, spell words and express
emotions.
The Internet
has brought the world into our living room and we find
ourselves communicating across cultures as well as religious
and cultural boundaries. But despite this, some people
still teach communication as if it came out of the 1970s.
We don't.
And once again, to be successful in the new world of
communication, we need to understand principles, not follow
rules like robots.
Because many
of our team have been involved in the internet revolution,
having worked in some of the leading organizations that have
influenced much of this change, we're switched on to these
changes.
